Universal Credit - 4 Months Along

Since the 14th November 2018, anyone with a new claim for benefits in the Wyre Forest has been receiving Universal Credit. This is the new benefit that replaces the following benefits:

  • Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Housing Benefit
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Child Tax Credit.

The main change for tenants is that the payment for their rent (known as the ‘housing element’) will be paid directly to them, meaning that they will in turn have to pay this themselves directly to The Community Housing Group.

For tenants unsure as to what to do or how to claim, there is a Universal Credit helpline, 0800 328 5644 (Text phone: 0800 328 1344) which is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.  Or you can go online for more information: www.understandinguniversalcredit.gov.uk

Alternatively, you can visit the Hub for assistance, based at Kidderminster Town Hall.
