Voluntary Right to Buy
The Voluntary Right to Buy pilot (VRtB) has been introduced across the Midlands. The Community Housing Group is taking part in the pilot which will last for two years.
The VRtB is a scheme where assured tenants (who have been a tenant of social housing for at least 3 years), will have the chance to buy their home at a discount from 35% for houses and 50% for flats, only for customers who qualify.
The VRtB scheme is only available to general needs tenants of The Community Housing Group, this means all tenants living in designated sheltered or supported accommodation are currently excluded from the pilot scheme.
Applicants will need to register on the government’s VRtB website https://midlands.righttobuy.gov.uk to obtain a Unique Reference Number (URN) and we can only accept an application if an applicant has received this.
A limited number of URNs will be available and not every applicant will receive one. Please note: that even if you do receive a URN, there is no guarantee you will be able to buy your home. It will also depend on the eligibility of your home and its affordability to you. There is a limited amount of government funding available for this pilot.
Applicants will be chosen at random by the government by ballot after the gateway has closed. The ballot has been chosen to ensure fair distribution of the limited number of URNs.
