When Special care is needed
If a parent or family member suffers a period of ill health or requires an operation which will affect their independence (for a while or an indefinite period) their existing Community Alarm can be enhanced using new Telecare technology.
We offer a range of sensors and detectors which can alert the Central Control team to any changes in usual behaviour such as
- Chair and bed sensors (PDF opens in new window) which can detect if the customer has not left their chair or bed or returned within a specified period of time
- “Wandering” alarm (PDF opens in new window) which will detect if the front door (or any other external door) has been left open
The sensors can also be used to aid the customer for example:
- a sensor which will switch on a light when the customer leaves a bed or chair during the night and switches off automatically after a specified period of time
- Gas alert (to detect if cookers have been left on)
- Flood alert to detect if bath taps have been left running
In June 2004, we adapted one of our flats in a Group Dwelling Scheme with a range of sensors so that if a customer, family member or health care professional wanted to test the service, they had an opportunity to do so (we even offer an overnight stay if necessary)
