Claire CashmoreIntroducing Claire Cashmore, Olympic swimmer & Equalities Champion

We are extremely pleased to have Kidderminster’s own, Claire Cashmore to be our Equalities Champion and help us to celebrate 2010 as our year of equality and diversity.

Claire Cashmore is a second year Linguistics student at the University of Leeds. She represented Great Britain at the 2004 and 2008 Paralympic Games.

At the 2009 IPC European Championships, Claire won a gold medal and broke the world record in the 4×100m medley relay (34 points) squad. In her individual events, she won a bronze medals in the 100m SB8 breaststroke and 50m Freestyle S9. During the 2009 season, Claire also broke the European 200m IM record and will represent GB at the World Short-Course Championships in Rio in December 2009.

Claire competed in four events at the Beijing Paralympics, winning a bronze medal in the 100m SB8 Breaststroke. She also reached finals in 100m S9 Backstroke, 100m S9 Butterfly and 200m SM9 Individual Medley.

Claire also competed at the 2004 Athens Paralympics aged just 16, winning bronze in the S9 100m backstroke and the 200m individual medley. She won silver at the 2008 Visa Paralympic World Cup in the S9 100m Freestyle, with a new British record of 1:07.53.
