Neighbourhood Wardens

How Neighbourhood Wardens can help...

Our dedicated team of Neighbourhood Wardens have provided neighbourhoods and communities with a reassuring presence for over six years.

They provide daily patrols (day and evening) and work hard with residents, schools and community groups to find local solutions to local problems

They are very visible in distinctive uniforms and show that by their presence, communities are fighting back against crime and nuisance.

What the Neighbourhood Wardens can do

They are the eyes and ears in the community and have provided evidence in a number of successful Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOS).

The Wardens have recently been accredited under the West Mercia Police Community Safety Scheme which provides them with additional powers including:

  • Confiscating alcohol in designated places
  • Confiscating alcohol from young people
  • Confiscate tobacco from young people
  • Remove abandoned vehicles
  • Request name and addresses from any person who has been involved in an offence which has cause injury, alarm or distress or who had behaved in an anti-social way

They were the first in the country to have been given the opportunity to take such an important step in fighting crime.

Crime Prevention

The Neighbourhood Wardens are also able to give crime prevention advice.  They meet with Estate Officers, tenant groups and local neighbourhood watch groups to talk about current issues of concern, provide security measures such as property marking or home safety checks and visit potentially vulnerable residents.
